About this compound

About this compound

Ipamorelin is a synthetic pentapeptide (five amino acids) that selectively activates the GH-secretagogue receptor (the ghrelin receptor), prompting release of the body’s own growth hormone.

What it has been researched for

Described in 1998 as the first selective GH secretagogue: in animals it released growth hormone as strongly as earlier compounds but, importantly, without meaningfully raising cortisol (a stress hormone) or prolactin. It is widely used as a reference tool in growth-hormone and ghrelin-receptor research.

How it is thought to work

Selective agonism (clean activation) of the ghrelin/GH-secretagogue receptor on pituitary cells, triggering GH release with a comparatively clean hormonal profile.

Regulatory status

Ipamorelin is not an approved medicine; it is supplied as a research compound - not for human consumption.
